Shrimp - Vibriosis

Vibriosis is a bacterial disease caused by Vibrio which is a Gram-negative, motile, facultative anaerobe bacteria of the family Vibrionaceae. 

It is commonly found throughout the world and all marine crustaceans, including shrimp. Several species of Vibrio including V. parahaemolyticus and V. harveyi have been described as the main pathogenic species in shrimp. 

V. harveyi is one of the most important etiologic agents of mass mortalities of penaeid larval rearing systems. 

Most common symptoms are - 

Anorexia and behavioural changes. 

Some species and strains of Vibrio cause the shrimp to be luminescent. 

Mortality ranges from insignificant to 100%, particularly in postlarvae and young juvenile shrimp.
